Humans of Detroit

“I was a visiting scholar at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and then I studied journalism in Paris, then I came back to Detroit. I like Detroit, I spend a lot of time here and right now I’m based in Detroit and work here – I get to write about the city, so that’s pretty cool. I also have a personal project right now called ‘No Place Like Detroit.’ I wanted to start the project after I attended a talk organized by Lauren Hood. The theme was ‘I was here’ and it was this group of people talking about how they grew up in Detroit, how everything was changing and how it was hard for them because they didn’t want people to forget about them with all the new people coming into the city. So that’s where I got the idea. Listening to them talk inspired me to want to record people’s stories here.”
